bright eyes fire boys
chasing circles around cement and citrus
flush/ in their play

one of them always cheek on cool stone
at the end always one of them had to die
at the end they would gather to bury him
pretending his eyes were shut he’d watch

 

 


K.M. English‘s first collection, Wave Says, was a semifinalist for the 2017 Sawtooth Prize from Ahsahta (US). Recent poems appear or are forthcoming in the US in Third Coast, Poetry Northwest, Berkeley Poetry Review, inter|rupture, cream city review, and other places.
